"Perceptions of Neonatologists towards Traditional and Competency-Based Medical Education during the Specialty Fellowship"

Gidi Paret is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University and a visiting Professor at Stanford University. He is the Director of the Department of Pediatric Intensive Care of the Sheba Med Ctr, and Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association.

His professional life has always been one with a balance of clinical research, patient care and teaching medical students and residents. He is a member of the editorial board of “Pediatric Critical Care Medicine”, the “Journal of PediatricCritical Care Medicine” and “Harefuah”. His research program focuses on assessing biomarkers in critically ill pediatric populations. The commitment to this area of focus is evidenced by leading the first laboratory in Israel of molecular biology dedicated specifically to pediatric intensive care.

He is taking part in education for medical students, residents and post-doctoral fellows, an activity that he feels passionate about and has been recognized for and have been recognized for as the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association, which is responsible for the planning and supervision of the physician specialization system in Israel and for continuing education programs in medicine.

As he recognized the importance of professional teaching for physicians dealing with medical education, he has decided to broaden his pedagogical content and to study in the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology of the Technion, that integrates disciplinary courses and courses in education. His study, under the supervision of Prof. Yehudit Judy Dori and Clinical Associate Professor Dan Waisman, is about perceptions of neonatologists towards traditional and competency-based medical education.
